They normally specialise in a particular branch of physical science, such as organic, inorganic, physical or analytical chemistry, mechanics, heat, light, sound, electricity and magnetism, electronics, nuclear physics, geophysics, geology, meteorology and astronomy, and they may specialise in developing practical applications in medical, industrial, military or other particular fields.
