- Tiedonsiirto- ja välitysjärjestelmien ja muiden tietoliikennepalveluihin tarvittavien laitteiden muodostama kokonaisuus, jossa voidaan sähkömagneettisen menetelmän avulla siirtää informaatiota liitäntäpisteestä toiseen. Tele- eli tietoliikenneverkossa käytettävät sähkömagneettiset menetelmät voivat perustua esimerkiksi radioyhteyden tai optisen yhteyden hyödyntämiseen
