  • În anumite domenii legislative, Parlamentului European i se solicită să îşi dea aprobarea, ca procedură legislativă specială în conformitate cu articolul 289 alineatul (2) din Tratatul privind funcţionarea Uniunii Europene (TFUE). Procedura de aprobare conferă Parlamentului drept de veto. Astfel, Parlamentul are rolul de a aproba sau de a respinge propunerea legislativă fără alte amendamente, iar Consiliul nu poate ignora avizul Parlamentului. Aprobarea, ca procedură nelegislativă, este necesară şi atunci când Consiliul adoptă anumite acorduri internaţionale.
