  • På vissa lagstiftningsområden har Europaparlamentet skyldighet att ge sitt godkännande genom ett särskilt lagstiftningsförfarande enligt artikel 289.2 i fördraget om Europeiska unionens funktionssätt. Godkännandeförfarandet ger parlamentet vetorätt. Parlamentets roll består därmed i att godkänna eller förkasta lagstiftningsförslaget utan ändringsförslag, och rådet kan inte negligera parlamentets inställning. Godkännandeförfarandet krävs också som ett icke-lagstiftningsförfarande när rådet sluter vissa internationella avtal.
