  • Stoffer, der tilsættes bevidst til fødevarer med bestemte teknologiske funktioner, f.eks. som farvestof, sødemiddel eller konserveringsmiddel. I Den Europæiske Union identificeres alle fødevaretilsætningsstoffer med et E-nummer. De mest almindelige tilsætningsstoffer, som angives på fødevaredeklarationer, er antioxidanter (der skal forhindre forringelse af fødevarerne på grund af iltning), farvestoffer, emulgatorer, stabilisatorer og fortyknings- og geleringsmidler, konserveringsmidler og sødemidler.
