Definition

  • Stoffen die opzettelijk aan levensmiddelen worden toegevoegd om bepaalde technologische functies te vervullen, bijvoorbeeld om voedsel te kleuren, te zoeten, of te conserveren. In de Europese Unie worden alle additieven voor levensmiddelen aangeduid met een E-nummer. De meest gebruikelijke additieven op etiketten van levensmiddelen zijn antioxidanten (om aantasting door oxidatie te voorkomen), kleurstoffen, emulgatoren, stabilisatoren, geleer- en verdikkingsmiddelen, conserveringsmiddelen en zoetstoffen.
